Castle Heeswijk has an eventful history that goes back to the year 1080. It has been destroyed and rebuilt many times over the centuries. The current form dates from 1835, the result of a thorough renovation and expansion according to the wishes of André, Baron van den Bogaerde, who made Heeswijk his residential and working palace. He is mainly known as the first Governor of the King in Brabant after the secession of Belgium in 1830. The Province has nominated Heeswijk as a Top Monument of Brabant and it is open to the public 6 days a week.
