Have you ever wondered how the Romans fed their armies in the Netherlands? How hunter-gatherers made sure food was always nearby? What a set table in a medieval inn looked like? How cooking was done in the kitchen of a simple craftsman? Or when people started growing food around a farm?

"Discover the enchanting atmosphere of the Historical Festival in this immersive video!"
Experience the unique atmosphere of the Historical Festival at our market! This year you will find dozens of special merchants scattered throughout the museum who will take you back to the time of Napoleon's French army. For example, there will be a blacksmith with beautiful blacksmithing, knives, axes and more. Or visit the jewelry maker for beautiful jewelry made of gold, silver and bronze. You'll complete your accessories with handmade glass beads. There's plenty to find for clothing, too: handmade shoes, hand-spun and hand-woven fabrics and more. Are you visiting with small children? Then be sure to stop by the stall full of children's toys!
At most Historic Festival booths, you pay in cash. There is no ATM on the grounds to withdraw cash, so make sure you have money in advance.
Outside the castle walls, there are opportunities to eat and drink during the Historical Festival. In and around the medieval inn, you can enjoy snacks and drinks. There are several places where you can get lunch. You can enjoy it in different places, such as tree trunks or other seating areas. Or enjoy it together in the grass by the stalls or at different time zones, there are plenty of choices. In other words, you can choose where you want to eat: among the busy stalls or nestled in the peace of nature of Castle Heeswijk.
During the Historical Festival Netherlands, you can participate in various activities. How about making your own amulets? Or learning fighting techniques from a Viking boss? This year you can see for yourself what craft processes look like, from sheep to clothing and from primal to iron axe. And that's not all... It will be a weekend full of excitement, entertainment and adventure that you will never forget. Order your tickets early!
Please note that there is an abbreviated routing available within the castle, where only the first floor and cellars can be visited. Please also note that there may be a waiting period to enter the castle.
