Will you come discover the treasures of Castle Heeswijk ? We start with a short introductory story. Then the children (in 3 groups accompanied by row parents, teachers) will explore the castle with the assignments of Museum Treasures.
In the introductory lesson at school, prior to the museum visit, students have already learned what actually makes an object valuable. Not only because it is worth a lot of money, but also because it is rare or has a special story to go with it. The castle is full of treasures! Afterwards, the students are asked what is a valuable treasure for themselves!

Go to tickets, choose the date of your visit and order the required number of tickets for your class. Don't forget to hand in the original voucher from Erfgoed Brabant on the day of visit (without a voucher, unfortunately, we still have to charge for castle visit). Duration of the discovery tour approx. 1 hour.


80 years of market garden
Group 7, 8
The Second World War, recent history that should never be forgotten.
On Sept. 17, 1944, paratroopers from the 501st Parachute Infantry Regiment, 101st US Airborne Division landed on Estate Heeswijk . During Operation Market-Garden, they and other airborne units cleared the way for the advancing Allied armies. Through the heroic actions of American soldiers, this part of the Netherlands was freed from German occupation.
From September 2024, we will take students on a journey of discovery in and around the castle to get a picture of that special day; Sept. 17, 1944, Operation Market Garden, the day Francis Sampson, chaplain of the 101st US Airborne Division landed with his parachute in the moat of Castle Heeswijk.
Duration: approx. 1 hour
After a common introduction, the groups are split up (5 groups) to do 5 different assignments.
Admission: €5.00 per student.
Riding parents/escorts accompany the group free of charge.


Group 4 - 6
How people used to live in a castle
Why is there a bridge in front of the castle? What is a pigeon tower for? How heavy does a suit of armor weigh? What is a lampet set? Why do curtains hang around the bed?
Together with the guide, the students find answers to all these questions. AND if they get the answers right, they will see the word we are looking for. That should do the trick!
In the basement, students learn what the castle used to look like, see the well, and what happened if you had been naughty ...
Additional activity:
How people used to write letters? Not with the computer but with a quill? Try it yourself!

discover the castle as a knight or princess
Why does a castle have such a thick door? And is there water around the castle? And why are there bells in the kitchen? Together with the guide, the youngest students already discover a lot about life in a castle.
In the basement, students listen to the story of Kunegonde, who lived at the castle, and Knight Frogbill. The knights are knighted by the princess. Noble walking, bowing, waving and talking are practiced. As accomplished knights and princesses, the students leave the castle!

building history and old crafts
Do you know how long it took to build the castle? What a mote tower is? How thick the walls are? Why a castle used to have no windows?
In the castle you will discover many different architectural styles and crafts, such as the wooden panels in the Tink room, the gold leather wallpaper on the wall, the painted ceilings. In the Iron Tower and outside you will see a lot of wrought ironwork, do you know what that is?
The guide will tell you about the building history and old crafts. Then you walk through the castle yourself with the treasure hunt. And did you answer everything correctly?
Additional activity
If you wanted to send a message in the past, you couldn't do it with your cell phone or computer but wrote a letter with ink and a quill! Try it yourself!
