2024 History Festival Postponed
Due to the heavy rain, the grounds of the Dutch History Festival are too wet for participants and visitors.
For this reason, Heeswijk Castle and the organizer have decided to postpone the Festival for a year.

Experience the unique atmosphere of the Historical Festival at our market! This year, you’ll find dozens of unique vendors scattered throughout the museum, transporting you back to the era of Napoleon’s French army. There’s a blacksmith with beautiful wrought ironwork, knives, axes, and more. Or visit the jeweler for stunning gold, silver, and bronze jewelry. Complete your look with handmade glass beads. There’s plenty to choose from in terms of clothing as well: handmade shoes, hand-spun and hand-woven fabrics, and much more. Bringing young children? Be sure to stop by the stall full of children’s toys!
Most of the stalls at the Historical Festival accept cash only. There are no ATMs on site, so be sure to withdraw cash in advance.

Food & Drink
Outside the castle walls, there are plenty of places to eat and drink during the Historical Festival. You can enjoy a snack and a drink in and around the medieval inn. There are several places where you can pick up lunch. You can enjoy it in various spots, such as on tree trunks or other seating areas. Or relax together on the grass near the stalls or at different time zones—there’s plenty of choice. In other words, you can choose where you want to eat: among the bustling stalls or nestled in the tranquility of Heeswijk Castle’s natural surroundings.

Activities and workshops
During the Netherlands History Festival, you can take part in a variety of activities. How about making your own amulets? Or learning combat techniques from a Viking chieftain? This year, you can see with your own eyes what traditional craftsmanship looks like, from sheep to clothing and from stone to iron axe.
