Winter Camp at the Castle
March 14, 2026 – March 15, 2026
Winter Camp at the Castle
On March 14 and 15, the NAN Winter Camp returns to the charming Heeswijk Castle. During this special weekend, the castle grounds will be transformed into a lively historical camp, where reenactors will bring daily life from the Regency period to life.
This year’s theme is Lady Day. This historic day, which traditionally fell around March 25, was an important occasion throughout the year for centuries. On Lady Day, contracts were renewed, rents were paid, staff were hired, and markets were held. It was a day full of activity and social gatherings.
During the Winter Camp, you can see what life might have been like during that period. In and around the castle, you’ll encounter various scenes from life back then:
⚔️ Soldiers who have set up camp
🧺 Civilians and nobles depicting daily life
💰 Farmers and tenants making payments or renewing agreements
🧑🍳 Households looking for staff
⚖️ Minor disputes and lawsuits being discussed or settled
The castle itself is also bustling with activity. The residents are engaged in everyday activities such as needlework, reading, and playing games, creating a vivid picture of social life around Lady Day.
