Keller des Schlosses Heeswijk

Ein echtes Schafott, in das Kopf und Hände eingeklemmt werden. Ein Pranger, Fußfesseln und eine Daumenschraube. Wer im Spätmittelalter ein Verbrechen begangen hatte, dem stand keine angenehme Behandlung bevor. Körperliche Strafen waren damals gang und gäbe, und als Gefangener war es fraglich, wie man einen „Verhör“ überstehen würde. Die Sammlung alter Folterinstrumente in den Verliesen unseres Schlosses sind stille Überbleibsel einer Zeit, die wir in Bezug auf Verbrechen und Strafen lieber hinter uns lassen möchten. 

Du kannst sie dir natürlich trotzdem ansehen. Denn seit kurzem sind unsere jahrhundertealten Schlosskeller für Besucher geöffnet. Die Keller wurden restauriert und didaktisch gestaltet. Hier erfährst du als Schlossgast spannende Geschichten über die alten Gefängnisse, aber auch über Archäologie, bedeutende Baudenkmäler sowie mittelalterliche Ritter und Burgfräulein.

Die ältesten Teile

Unser Schloss reicht übrigens weiter in die Vergangenheit zurück, als man vermuten würde. Die ältesten Teile der Schlosskeller stammen bereits aus dem 11. Jahrhundert. Rechnen wir mal nach: Das ist fast tausend Jahre her! Damals bildeten Eisenerzbrocken das Fundament für die allererste Mottenburg. Schließlich wurden drei Meter dicke Burgmauern gemauert, versehen mit Schießscharten für die Kanonen. Schließlich musste die Burg gut vor Feinden und Böswilligen geschützt bleiben. 

Es gibt viel zu entdecken

Inmitten der waldreichen Landschaft Brabants thront das monumentale Schloss Heeswijk, das schönste Schloss in Brabant.

Kein verstecktes Gelände mehr

Bis vor kurzem waren die Keller für Museumsbesucher tabu. Schloss Heeswijk öffnet nun endgültig die Treppe zu den Kellern. Mit etwas Fantasie wird das Mittelalter hier wirklich lebendig. Neben der Restaurierung der Keller widmet sich die Ausstellung auch den Ausgrabungen im Burggraben sowie den wandernden Handwerkern, die die Bauwerke errichteten.

Entdecke verborgene Geschichten

Als Besucher erfährst du mithilfe eines digitalen Spieltisches, wie sich im Laufe der Jahre Menschen in Brabant niedergelassen und ihre Zukunft aufgebaut haben. Triff den letzten Baron, der dir in einem Video seine „verborgenen Geschichten“ erzählt, darüber, wie er sich im Schloss immer noch wie ein Ritter fühlt. Für Kinder machen wir es besonders spannend: Sie können sich in der Verkleidungsecke als echte Burgfräulein oder Ritter herausputzen. Die Eröffnung der Kellerräume wird – wie könnte es anders sein – von einem Ritter in Rüstung vorgenommen.
